Cost-effective authentication gets the library future-ready at Gwanda State University

In today’s digital age, a university library isn’t just a physical building—it’s an online gateway to world-class research, accessible from anywhere. But for growing institutions, providing seamless, secure access to digital resources without breaking the bank can be a major hurdle.
Gwanda State University (GSU), Filabusi, Zimbabwe faced exactly this challenge. With students and faculty relying on an extensive collection of e-books, journals, and video lectures across two campuses and remote locations, the library lacked a centralised authentication system. Users were forced to juggle multiple passwords and tedious login processes just to do their coursework and research.
To achieve our vision of driving cutting-edge innovation by 2030, GSU needed a solution that was secure, user-friendly, and, crucially, budget-friendly.
We found the perfect fit in - OpenAthens Connect.
By implementing this streamlined single sign-on (SSO) solution, GSU has successfully removed access barriers.
