Gwanda State University Continues to Strengthen Community Engagement through Book Donation - Phase 2, 30–31 March 2026

On 30 - 31 March 2026 the Gwanda State University (GSU) Library, in collaboration with Information, Marketing & Public Relations, completed Phase 2 of its Book Donation Initiative, delivering textbooks and reading materials to Gwanda High School, Gwanda Prison and Correctional Services, and Esigodini Prison and Correctional Services. The initiative supports the Education 5.0 pillar - community engagement_ a strategy to promote inclusive access to learning materials and support knowledge-building across the wider Matebeleland South community. This community engagement programme builds upon the work initiated in November 2025 - Phase 1 to support education, literacy, and rehabilitation across Matebeleland South.

Inmates are showing remarkable inventiveness—transforming scrap materials into quality crafts, running nurseries, and developing practical solutions for everyday challenges. These creative projects teach technical skills, foster teamwork and entrepreneurship, and produce products and produce that support the facility and local community. Such innovation not only boosts self-worth and employability but also strengthens prospects for successful reintegration.

Key outcomes
  • Strengthened ties between GSU and local education and correctional institutions.
  • Immediate increase in available learning and recreational reading materials at beneficiary sites.
  • Raised campus and community awareness of the role of libraries in community development and rehabilitation.
